The Lost Essence of Society

The Lost Essence of Society

The souls of this generation are no longer pure,

You’ve indoctrinated our minds with fake impressions and lies that we can no longer endure.

It’s to a point where we hide our depression and sorrow behind boundless nights of outrageous drinking,

Can’t you see... can’t you see that we are sinking?

We are sinking so deep that people are being loved for being fake and people are being hated for being real,

Our spirit has been broken so badly that meaningless sex means more than having a cooked meal.

Welcome to society where being yourself is forbidden,

And where we drink to quench the hidden depression.

Welcome to society where women are objectified,

And meaningless sex is glorified.

Welcome to the human race,

Where texting is the norm because we are afraid to speak face to face.

Welcome to society where looking physically perfect is the goal,

Instead of accepting each other and being united as a whole.

We live in a society where ignorance is more important than education,

And where people live their lives for the desire of intoxication.

The foundation of our youth should be the start of an everlasting journey,

But no... We are more dried up than we are thirsty.

We alienate ourselves from those who love us

And affiliate ourselves with those who hate us.

We live in a society where happiness for each other’s success,

Is overpowered by jealousy and fixation in distress.

I miss the old days where music had more meaning,

But now it’s nothing, but mediocre and deceiving.

Society needs more thinkers and leaders,

There’s no reason to halt this discussion because we need more dreamers than drug dealers.

We are rebellious against change,

Because if we are different we are perceived as ‘’strange’’.

We are brought to a lower level where we cannot be found,

Society can be changed, but it’s up to us to take the leap of faith and make a sound.
